Jolie Chocolat!

SEI's Jolie Chocolat collection is in, and it's absolutely beautiful! Rich chocolates, pinks, and mauves with just a touch of dark sage thrown in. These papers are to die for. There are glitter papers, embossed papers, and glitter/embossed papers, along with shimmer papers. We have the puff stickers that go along with it (these are like epoxy stickers). We also have matching rub-ons. There are images of butterflies, flowers, hearts, and swirls on these gorgeous papers. They will make your Valentine cards and layouts stand out above the rest, and of course, you could use them for any sweetheart or happy-go-lucky theme. They make you smile just looking at them!

We now have the full-size Scor-It Board. If you want to see this product in action, click on this link: http://sbl.tvweekly.com/player.php?1fbe513ad34280f04b8757c922f7a046z630 and then click on the Card Keeper project webisode in the Scrapbook Lounge. The Scor-It will score and emboss cards and papers at precise intervals that you select. It's really handy, especially if you like making accordion books. It will also help you make boxes of various sizes. Check it out.

We are REALLY looking forward to CHA! We leave next week! Remember, the store will be closed while we are at CHA (February 8th through February 13th). Any online orders you make during that time will not be shipped until we return. We welcome any suggestions for products to check out while we are there. Please feel free to e-mail us at scrappersaurus@yahoo.com or call the store at 504-301-1081. You can leave a message if it is after hours.

TIP OF THE DAY
When working with papers that have a barcode strip on the bottom, make sure you take out your trimmer and measure the paper at 12" (or whatever it is supposed to be), and then cut the remainder with the barcode off. A few companies will print their barcode strip below 12", and a few I have found actually print them above the 12" mark. You will want to take note of this when working with these papers, to make sure your pages line up right. You don't want to have a page sticking out the top that will get crushed with handling.

Until next time, happy scrapping!

Cricut Design Studio

I am SO excited!!! We finally got the Cricut Design Studio registered so now we can fully use the software. I explored it a lot today and tried a bunch of things on it, and it is really AWESOME!!! There is so much you can do with this software that you cannot do with the Cricut itself. Using the software, you can change the size, shape, and orientation of each character or shape individually, and you can mix fonts from different cartridges. You can weld words together where all the alphabets in the word are cut as one piece instead of individually. You can take an image, like a flower, and weld several of them together to form a bouquet. You can save your work as a file so you can go back to it at another time and complete it or recut it. You can even share your compositions with friends once you've saved them to a file. You can flip images over (mirror image) so if you have something facing to the left, you can also cut one flipped over, facing to the right, so you have a pair facing both ways. I personally like to put things on the outsides of my layouts, facing the inside of the layout. This would mean the left layout would have an image facing the right, and on the right layout, an image facing the left. The eye naturally follows the direction an object is facing, so it makes the layout flow smoother. Can I just say one more thing? I LOVE THIS SOFTWARE!!!

I am planning a class on the Cricut for Saturday, March 1st. If you have a Cricut or Cricut Expression and a laptop and the Cricut Design Studio software, you can bring them to the class and work on your own along with me. Otherwise, I will be demonstrating different techniques using the software on our computer. I will also be teaching basic Cricut operation, so if you don't have a laptop but own a Cricut, you can bring your Cricut and learn its operation as I demo ours. If you want to just come and see how it all works before purchasing, that's fine, too. We sell the Cricut, Cricut Expression, and the Design Studio software. Please call now if you plan on attending this class, as attendance will have to be limited.

TIP OF THE DAY
Many stampers have a favorite stamp they like to use, and find numerous different ways to use that same stamp. One problem, though, is that you run the risk of sending a stamped card using that stamp to the same person more than one time. A good way to avoid doing this is to make two identical cards using the stamp. Send one card to your friend or family member, and then make a mini-layout of the event you are sending the card for, showcasing the card on the layout. Then you not only will know which stamps you used for each person, but you will have a beautiful way to remember the events you used the stamp for, as well as a mini album of all the events that touched you enough to stamp and send a card.

Until next time, happy scrapping!!!

Welcome, New Orleans Sassy Stampers!

I would like to welcome the New Orleans Sassy Stampers to Scrappersaurus! Their group met at the store Saturday and I understand from Felix and Emery it was quite a party! Unfortunately, I had a stomach bug and was home feeling really crummy and missed all the fun. :(

Felix and Emery are exhausted from this past weekend--I hear they had lines of people waiting to check out the entire day, and they were run ragged. GOOD! I'm glad they got to see what it's like being on your feet all day, for a change! But Felix tells me we are wiped out of a lot of merchandise now, and I am almost dreading going in tomorrow to see the shape of the store. I will be doing a lot of creative rearranging until CHA's stuff comes in. I am glad because we have several new orders coming in this week and that gives me the space to properly display it all. As usual, things are always changing at Scrappersaurus, and what you see one day could be totally different from what you see the next day. We like that. It keeps things interesting, and keeps people coming in to see what treasures we've put out.

The Speaking Up Voice Recorders are going like hotcakes! We have sold dozens of them since the www.crafttvweekly.com webisode they had on November 9th. Lots of internet orders for them from people all over the country, and even in other countries. How cool is that?!

Another really hot item is the Tag Alongs by Chatterbox. We've sold dozens of these, as well. People come in to buy one for themselves then end up coming back to get one for their best friend, their husband, and another one for themselves to use at a different desk or table. We're really pleased with the way they have been received. We hope to find lots more items like the Speaking Up Voice Recorder and Tag Along at CHA for you. We want to bring you the best, most exciting products out there for papercrafters and stampers. If you have suggestions on products for us to look at while we are at CHA, please e-mail us and let us know so we can check them out.

TIP OF THE DAY
Do you have a waterbrush? Do you even know what that is? It is sort of like a paintbrush but with a hollow barrel that you fill with water. They are excellent for several different things. One of them that I really like is paper tearing. You put the shape you wish to tear on your paper, run the wet waterbrush along the edge of the shape, and it will tear very easily. You don't have to soak the paper, just wet it enough to go through the entire sheet. Remember some papers are a lot thicker or thinner than others, so you might want to experiment a little before you start using this technique with your beautiful patterned papers. If you use handmade or mulberry paper, try pulling the papers apart instead of tearing them. This will pull out the long fibers of the paper and leave you with that beautiful fringe-like effect.

Another use for the waterbrush is to use with watercolors. Instead of using a regular brush that you have to dip into a water bowl often to keep your watercolor wet, you just use the waterbrush and it is always wet.

Filling your waterbrush is easy. Unscrew the top brush part, and you will see a black plug-looking piece at the top of the barrel. It will have a hole in it. Don't try to pour water into this little hole. Using regular tapwater, just take a small glass or bowl of water, squeeze the air out of the waterbrush barrel and put it into the water and let go. The water will fill the barrel and you're ready to go.

To clean your waterbrush, simply wipe the brush on a clean piece of paper towel several times, squeezing lightly on the barrel to flush the water through the brush. You don't have to squeeze hard! When the waterbrush brushes clear, it's ready to use for the next color.

We sell waterbrushes in several different sizes, for different applications. If you want to see one in action, I'll let you try mine before you buy one. All you have to do is ask!

Until next time, happy scrapping!

St. Bernard Community Center

Tonight we held a free mini album class for the ladies in St. Bernard. The theme of the album was, of course, reconstruction and recovery, and I think it came out quite nicely. Everybody appeared to be having a good time, and I was very happy to be able to provide them with a creative activity that was different from what most of them have been doing on a day-to-day basis (rebuilding their homes and lives). As they were putting their albums together, I overheard a lot of them telling their friends exactly which pictures they were going to be putting on which pages. We used the Karen Foster "Wet Paint" papers, and construction stickers. We got to see a lot of our friends that crop at the store, as well as to make new friends. We welcome them all to Scrappersaurus and look forward to helping them get back into scrapbooking and papercrafting. Having a hobby is not just a luxury--it is an absolute necessity if one is to try to stay sane. We all have so much to do and so much to take care of, and it is equally important for us to take care of ourselves by allowing ourselves to relax and create things just to balance everything out. We hope we helped do that tonight.

Felix and I got lost a few times trying to get to the Community Center! It had been quite a while since either of us had gone to "Da Parish", and we couldn't remember where to turn. And when we remembered, there weren't any street signs to tell us which street we were on. It was quite entertaining. It was a good thing we had left early, and since we had extra time, we were able to go up and down each street until we found where we were supposed to be. A note to the St. Bernard Parish Streets Department--PLEASE put up street signs, especially on Lebeau, so people can find the Community Center more easily!

We were surprised at how much traffic there was in the city, and at just how many people have returned. It was sad driving through the 9th Ward and seeing all of the destruction still so evident, but every now and again you can see people rebuilding and it is good. It's going to take a while, but I think New Orleans is going to come back stronger than ever.

We have a few people signed up for the Love Coupon Book workshop on the 31st. Please call now if you're planning to attend so I can get the kits ready.

Purchasing from an independent retailer is an investment in your local community and ensures that the local economy stays strong. It also ensures that you will have a scrapbook store to go to for classes and crops. Buying from the big chains is like mailing your money out of the city, and the few dollars you saved now will not ensure that you will get proper instruction in the product, have refills for it, or be able to get the most out of it. We have talked to so many people about the Cricut, and you would be amazed at how many people see and purchase it at the larger chain stores and they don't know what they are getting, they just see that cheap price. Purchasing from an indepent retailer assures you getting the latest and most up to date item out there AND someone that actually knows what it is and how to work it if you have problems or questions. It might cost you a few dollars more, but let's face it, is it really worth saving 10 bucks to have the stock lady at the big chain answer you, "what is scrapbooking?" Shop local. Shop from a scrapbooker.

TIP OF THE DAY
When papercrafting, we need to put away our inner critic and allow things to flow. Remember that there is no right way, nor wrong way to papercraft. Don't worry if your project doesn't look like some in the magazines! It's not supposed to! You want to make sure that every project you create is a little piece of your individuality. You want people to be able to look at what you've made, and see your personality expressed in it by how you put it together. It isn't supposed to look like it came off a printing press. The stuff you see in the magazines are beautiful, but those people who created those projects are designers that do that sort of thing for a living and it is their work. Yes, you can create things like that, but you don't have to! Just relax, enjoy putting your project together, and just have fun! That's what it is all about. It's not about who has more evenly spaced eyelets or whose borders are exact. It's about creating something that will help you and others to remember things and events in your life, while having fun doing it. It's supposed to be a stress-reliever, not a stressor!

Until next time, happy scrapping!

Battle Winner, AGAIN!!!

Yes, it is glorious victory once again! Felix just can't keep up in the Battle card games, but that's okay. I have Battle and he has pool. I could never keep up with him in pool!

I received an e-mail from my sister in Minnesota and would like to share the link she sent me. It is for a very cool project that I think a lot of you could relate to, and probably would like to make. Don't forget to e-mail me pics of YOUR finished creations!

LSU Vs. Ohio State

Happy New Year! Can you believe it is the 5th already? The holidays were such a whirlwind for us. I hope your holidays were as wonderful as ours were.

Today we had the Brownie Troop 457 craft project. The girls made an adorable tabbed altered journal to keep their memories in of their Girl Scout activities and their friends. Scrappersaurus was overrun by Brownies all morning, and we had a blast! Thank you Nina, for bringing the girls in. We truly enjoyed it.

For those of you out there with Scout troops, we will be happy to host a meeting for you, and to provide a craft project for the troop that is geared to their level. Please call the store and speak with Felix or Dee for more info. Prices are negotiable depending on what you're looking to do.

Today we also received in the LSU vs. Ohio BCS National Championship lasercut that is outstanding. It is the LSU and Ohio logos layered over a VERY life-like Superdome! You have to see it! We only got in a few, so if you can't make it in, call or e-mail us ASAP if you need us to hold one for you. They're already going fast.

We finally got in the new Cricut Design Studio software that works with BOTH the original and the Cricut Expression. This software will allow you to preview any and all of the cartridges (they're all there in it's library), and to manipulate your images and words like you cannot do on the machine itself. You can "weld" words together so if you are cutting out your title, it will not come out in individual letters, but will come out all connected together as one cutting. You can reverse images, which is really cool if you like to have things facing each other on your page (as I do), and you can save your creations to recut at a later time or to share with a friend. We love this software so far, and have it set up in the store if you want to come check it out for yourself.

We will be hosting parade crops this carnival season. The cost will be $5.00 per person, per crop. You will be able to come in early, be assured of a good parking spot, crop for a while and then go and enjoy the parade (if you wish) and know there's a safe, clean bathroom nearby. The store will be monitored and only the croppers will be allowed into the store after 5:00 PM. We will then crop until midnight, just like any other crop. Remember, too, that we have a cooler and our canned beverages are only 60 cents apiece! The parade crop nights will be Friday January 25th and Friday February 1st.

We will be attending the CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) tradeshow in early February. If there is a new company or product that you think we should check out and carry in the store, please e-mail us so we can stop by their booth and see what they have, and place orders while we're there.

TIP OF THE DAY
I want to talk to you about scrapbook albums. There are a few things you should know about albums before purchasing them. The first thing is to make sure you purchase a quality album from a reputable company that also makes page refills for the album. That way you are not limited to the 10 or so pages that normally come in the album. ALBUM REFILL PAGES ARE NOT ALL THE SAME!!! Just about every company moves the position of the posts (in a post-bound album) just enough so that ONLY their brand of refill pages will fit in the album. It saddens me greatly when I see people come in looking for page refills for an album they picked up at one of the discount stores "for a really great price" that does not make album refills and no other company's refill pages fit. You really do get what you pay for. Spend a little bit more on that album to make sure it is one from a company that has been around for a while and that will continue to be around for a while, and rest assured you'll have no problems finding refill pages. Most albums will allow up to 60 refill pages in them. And with the new Snap Load albums, things just got a lot easier! There are Snap Load conversion kits available (we carry them) to change over your post-bound album to a Snap Load album. What is a Snap Load album? Well, it is sort of like a strap-hinge and post-bound album built into one. There is a rounded (like the post) strap that fits through the album and the ends snap down into a locked position until you open it to add or remove pages. You can add or remove pages from either the front or the back of the album with the Snap Load, and the conversion kit is very simple to install. If you have any questions about it, come see Emery at the store. He's an expert at converting albums now, and can help you do yours or, if you're nice to him, he'll even do it for you!

The last tip I want to give you on albums concerns the bowing out of the book as it is filled. The spine is narrower than the filled pages. Especially for people who enjoy 3-D pages. Very simple to fix. There are chipboard or foam spacer strips that come with every set of refill pages. Just insert these every couple of pages, and your spine will even out with the rest of your album. If you need more, simply take a piece of 12x12 chipboard and cut it into a strip and punch holes where the posts would go. Make sure you use another spacer strip as a guide for measurement and proper placement of the holes.

Enjoy!

Until next time, happy scrapping!
